Cover Illustration: Survivin is an inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) associated with the mitotic apparatus during cell division. During telophase survivin becomes localized to the midbody. Blocking survivin expression with antisense oligonucleotides in normal and cancer cells leads to multinuclear cells and apoptosis (see this issue) suggesting that survivin plays a role both in the control of apoptosis as well as cytokinesis.
